Sewing Resolutions 2026: What We Learned in 2025 and Where We’re Headed
Happy New Year! There’s something about the start of a new year that just begs for reflection—and the sewing room is no exception. Instead of calorie counting or gym goals (which absolutely have their place), we’re diving into something way more fun: sewing resolutions.
This year, we’re looking back at what we thought we’d do in 2025, how that actually went, and what we’re excited to try in 2026. Spoiler alert: not every goal was hit—and that’s completely okay. Read on or watch here:
✂️ How Our 2025 Sewing Resolutions Actually Went
Before we can move forward, we had to do a little rewind and rewatch last year’s video. And… honesty was required.
Whitney’s 2025 Goals
- Play more with the coverstitch machine
❌ Did not happen — but it’s definitely getting carried forward. - Try pattern drafting
❌ Also didn’t happen. - Create for the sake of creating
⚠️ Half credit. Life threw some serious curveballs, but there were meaningful sewing moments.

One major win? Being able to step in and sew special garments for loved ones—especially a graduation dress, a party dress, and a glittery prom dress that will live in family lore forever (and shed glitter for years to come).
Jenni’s 2025 Goals
- Sew a button-up shirt
✅ Kind of! The Seamwork West Top absolutely counts as a beginner-friendly button-up. - Sew something with a zipper
⚠️ Zippers were installed, just not by her. Jenni has her mom to thank for the zipper in the Seamwork Orla Skirt. Progress is progress. - Make one garment per month
✅ Crushed it — 21 makes total!

There’s something incredibly satisfying about opening your closet and realizing just how much of it was made with your own hands.
🧵 Sewing Goals for 2026: Less Basics, More Joy
So what’s next?
Jenni’s 2026 Sewing Intentions
- Finally conquer zippers (for real this time)
- Sew for occasions, not just basics
- Lean into fun, slightly ridiculous projects
Concert outfits. Black and white Indianapolis Motor Speedway looks. A special dress for anniversary dinners. A silly horse-themed shirt. Sewing doesn’t have to be practical to be worthwhile—it can be pure self-entertainment. For Jenni, this year is all about sewing things you can't buy at a store.
🪡 Whitney’s 2026 Focus: Slow Down & Sew with Intention
2025 made one thing very clear: slowing down matters.
For 2026, the goal isn’t more garments—it’s better garments.
That means:
- Playing with coverstitch and decorative stitches
- Using French seams, bias finishes, and Hong Kong seams
- Adding embroidery and subtle details that elevate a piece
Instead of an assembly line, the focus shifts to teaching, learning, and enjoying the process—and bringing you along for it, both online and (hopefully) in person.
