Sew the Look: Boden Inspired Outfit
One of my favorite sewing superpowers is spotting a ready-to-wear look and thinking, “I can totally make that—only better.” Whether it’s changing up the color, adjusting the cut, or swapping out stripes for solids, sewing lets us recreate inspiration while tailoring it to our exact taste. I am super-duper excited to bring a Boden-inspired look using the Love Notions Frankie and Bridget Trousers. It’s colorful, cozy, scrap-friendly, and absolutely winter-ready. The Inspiration: A Boden Look with Personality
When I spotted a Boden outfit during the Love Notions Bridget Trousers testing period, the whole look immediately sparked ideas. The pants had the exact vibe I envisioned for the Bridgets, and the top had perfect casual-cool energy that screamed “Love Notions Frankie!” I liked it so much that I shared it in my 10 RTW Looks to Recreate for Fall 2025 post. Here's the inspiration picture:

Love Notions Bridget Trousers — The Wide-Leg Upgrade
For the bottoms, I took the Love Notions Bridget Trousers and widened the legs. You can do this with your favorite pant pattern by following THIS TUTORIAL . The result was my dream pants that are comfortable, polished, versatile, and absolutely perfect for travel or everyday wear.
- Pattern: Love Notions Bridget Trousers* (size Medium, full-bust front; 1" shortened at the waist as usual)
- Leg Shape: Widened using my documented tutorial
- Fabric: Mood’s Papalo Ponte*—heavier weight, luxe feel, and available in a rainbow of colors
- Finishes:
- Faux welt pockets for a smooth back
- Hook-and-eye closure
- Minimal topstitching for a clean look
The Scrap-Happy Love Notions Frankie Top
This project is a scrapbuster dream. The Frankie’s polo/rugby style is ideal for color play, contrast fabrics, and fun details. Here’s what went into this version:
- Pattern: Love Notions Frankie *(shirt version) with the full-bust front
- Fabric Mix:
- Viscose sweater knit from Mood (no longer available)
- Pink ponte scrap for the collar
- Orangey-brown scrap for the placket
- Rainbow-striped cuffing purchased at the Puyallup Sewing Expo in 2024
- Finishing Touches:
- Acrylic heart buttons from a past So Haley Jane box
- Bright bias tape from Specky Seamstress for neck binding
What makes this top shine is the color matching miracle—the scraps paired perfectly with the cuffing, pulling the whole rainbow-inspired palette together. It’s cheerful, cozy, and full of personality.

Why This Outfit Works
One of the biggest reasons I love this outfit is the balance of comfort and polish. The ponte Bridget Trousers have that beautifully structured look—almost like a tailored trouser—but they feel like secret pajamas. Paired with the cozy viscose sweater knit Frankie, it creates this effortless “cozy chic” vibe that works for everything from a long car ride to a day at the sewing table.
The color play is another part that truly brings me joy. The Frankie is such a fun pattern for mixing scraps, and this version is full of cheerful details—the pink ponte collar, the warm orangey-brown placket, and those perfectly matched cuffing stripes. Every little pop of color feels intentional and happy, and it’s the kind of top that just lifts your spirits when you put it on.
I also love how versatile the whole outfit is. The wide-leg Bridgets can instantly shift from casual to dressed-up with a simple swap of shoes or layering piece. Throw on sneakers and it’s relaxed and playful; add the Metro Blazer and suddenly you’ve got a more polished, work-friendly look. It’s the kind of set that earns a permanent place in the wardrobe because it does so much.
And finally, this is exactly the kind of outfit I want to wear all winter. It’s warm without feeling bulky, stylish without demanding extra effort, and easy to move in—basically winter dressing at its best. When the temperatures drop, having pieces that keep you comfortable while still feeling put together is everything, and this look nails that combination perfectly.
