Handmade Spring Capsule Wardrobe
There’s something so refreshing about stepping into spring with a wardrobe that feels intentional. Not overwhelming. Not chaotic. Just… easy.
This year, instead of sewing a whole new seasonal wardrobe, I’m leaning into what I already have—and showing you how to build a handmade capsule wardrobe that truly works. Think fewer pieces, more outfits, and a system that takes the guesswork out of getting dressed.
And the best part? You can absolutely adapt this whether you’re sewing everything, mixing in ready-to-wear, or somewhere in between. Read on or watch here:
Why I’m Not Sewing a Whole New Spring Wardrobe
After years of wardrobe sewing, I’ve built a closet I truly love. So this year, I made a conscious decision:
Slow down, enjoy the process, and use what I already have.
Instead of pressure to constantly make more, I’m focusing on:
- Thoughtful details
- Enjoying the sewing process
- Wearing what I’ve made
My Go-To Capsule Wardrobe Framework (The Module Method)
This is where things get really fun—and practical.
Inspired by stylist Christie Ressel, I build my wardrobe in modules:
Each Module Includes:
- 3 tops
- 2 bottoms
- 1 layering piece
- (my addition) 1 dress
That’s 7 pieces per module
Why It Works
Each module mixes internally—but also works with other modules.
✨ Three modules = 18–21 pieces = hundreds of outfit combinations
It’s the easiest way I’ve found to:
- Maximize outfits
- Stay cohesive
- Avoid “nothing to wear” days
Start With a Color Palette (Game-Changer!)
Before pulling any pieces, I always define my colors. I’m a Copper Spring according to Color Guru and this season I’m focusing on:
- Neutrals: Navy + Cream
- Core Colors: Golden Yellow + Orange
- Statement Colors: Coral Pink + Spring Green
This creates that “everything goes together” magic.

This module leans into layering and transitional fabrics.
Key Pieces:

💡 This is where mix-and-match really shines—stripes, plaids, and solids all play nicely together.

This module brings in crisp, classic pieces.

A Special Bonus Piece ❤️
One of the most meaningful additions to this wardrobe is a lime green leather jacket from my mom.
It wasn’t something I remembered her wearing—but when I tried it on, it just worked.
Sometimes the most unexpected pieces become the most loved.
And yes… you’ll be seeing this on repeat all spring.
How It All Comes Together
With just 18 core pieces (+ a bonus!), I now have:
- Endless outfit combinations
- A cohesive closet
- Zero decision fatigue
And best of all? Everything reflects what I actually want to wear.
