TomKat Stitchery Whitney Love Notions Bridget Trousers

The Love Notions Bridget Trousers are here, and they combine the comfort of knitwear with the polish of tailored trousers. I collaborated directly with Love Notions to bring this design to life, and it’s everything I hoped for: structured, versatile, and incredibly wearable. Read on or watch here:

How the Bridget Trousers Came to Be

I had been searching for a true knit trouser pattern for years—not just a pull-on pant, but a structured trouser with all the professional details you’d find at Ann Taylor or Boden. After plenty of experimentation, I reached out to Tammy at Love Notions with an idea: a real trouser pattern designed for stable knits like ponte.

That collaboration turned into a year-long project, full of testing and refining to make sure the fit, fabric options, and construction were just right. The result is a pattern that looks perfectly at home in an office but feels as cozy as your favorite lounge pants.

Pattern Features

The Bridget Trousers are loaded with thoughtful design details that make them both stylish and practical:

  • Fabric flexibility: Designed for ponte knit (25% stretch required), but also works beautifully in Liverpool, scuba, double knit, interlock, or even a stretch woven.
  • Fit options: Includes separate cut lines for a flatter or fuller rear, plus front options for a standard or full belly fit.
  • Sizes 0–32: Inclusive sizing with shaping that flatters a wide range of bodies.
  • Functional details: Front slash pockets, belt loops, waistband with hook-and-bar or button closure, and optional faux or functional welt pockets.
  • Construction guidance: Video tutorials are linked right inside the pattern for both the fly front and welt pocket options.

My favorite touch? The pocket linings are anchored with lightweight woven fabric for a smooth, tummy-flattering finish—such a smart drafting choice!

Fabric Recommendations

Ponte is the star fabric here, offering just the right structure and stretch. I recommend around 350 GSM (±30) for the best drape and comfort.

Some tried-and-true sources include:

  • Sewing Studio – beautiful colors of midweight ponte (and check the resources for my coupon code!)
  • Surge Fabrics – their Ponte Twill at 320 GSM works perfectly for this pattern.
  • Mood Fabrics – the Papilio Ponte* (around 390 GSM) comes in over 30 colors and creates a sleek, structured finish.

If you prefer experimenting, a stable interlock or thick stretch woven can also work, as long as you’ve got 25% stretch.

Styling Ideas

These trousers are true wardrobe chameleons—you can dress them up or down effortlessly. Pair them with:

I’ve already declared the Bridget my official uniform for fall and winter. And honestly, who could blame me? They’re as comfortable as pajamas but look ready for a meeting.
