All the Bells and Whistles (and Pockets!)
Let’s talk features. The Love Notions Meadowlark Pants pattern* comes with:
- Envelope-style back patch pockets: These get sewn into the back yoke for a comfy and secure finish—no buttons necessary.
- Side cargo pocket and optional zippered pocket: Perfect for securely stashing keys or a phone.
- Two front pockets: With a full front pocket stay that helps smooth the front of the pants.
- Flat front waistband with elastic back: Comfy and flattering, with the option to add belt loops or a decorative button.
- Convertible design: You can sew them as shorts or full-length pants with zip-off legs, plus an optional roll-tab feature to keep pant legs up when wading through water.
What I Sewed & Sizing Notes
I made the size Medium, which is my usual size in Love Notions patterns. I did shorten the inseam by 1", which I often do with their shorts. I didn’t have enough fabric for all the pocket features, so I stuck to the basics—but I was still impressed with how polished and practical they turned out. Even with a faux fly and minimal trim, the design details really shine.
Recommended Fabric: Athletic Wovens Win
I used a stretch woven athletic fabric that’s been in my stash for ages. It's smooth, slightly slick, and similar to what you’d find in ready-to-wear outdoor apparel at REI or Dick’s Sporting Goods. You don’t need stretch fabric for this pattern (a regular woven or even lightweight denim works well), but a bit of stretch does boost comfort for activities.
If you’re hunting for fabric, Discovery Fabrics carries a great selection of athletic wovens. Click HERE for a similar fabric to what I used. Just a warning, if you love making activewear, Discovery Fabrics is like a candy store.😉
