Each year ASDP (The Association of Sewing and Design Professionals) along with Threads Magazine host a competition at the annual educational conference. These are the garments that TomKat Stitchery has entered.
2015 Finalist "Tiny Dancer"
The challenge was to create a sheath dress inspired by art. This sheath and wrap skirt combination were inspired by the ballerinas of Renoir. The simple sheath in a silk/linen blend is enhanced by the crinkle silk chiffon wrap skirt. The wrap skirt is adorned with hand sewn silk "petals" that give a nod to the ballerina's tutu.
The Elegant Dress
Custom dresses are one of our favorite things to create. They are so versatile and are the perfect canvas for any outfit. A wardrobe staple, these can be as simple or fantastic as you wish.
The bridal button down
This was one of 10 custom shirt dresses that I did for a bride and her bridal party. We used three coordinating fabrics and put a classic monogram above the left pocket. They were perfect for dressing the day of the wedding and a great memento of the day.
Pants and Trousers
One of the best reasons to buy custom is the perfect fit. Pants are beyond hard to fit in a ready-to-wear situation, but these will fit the bill .
Everyone knows "The Jacket." That little French number that was popularized in the 60's by a certain first lady. However, this is no longer just a jacket for the office, but can be worn with your favorite pair of ripped jeans.
To Keep the Chill Away
Outerwear is a perfect candidate for custom clothing. What's better than a classic coat or blazer that you can wear and reinvent for years to come?
Made up in a sumptuous lamb skin leather and lined in silk charmeuse, this topper is perfect for those in between seasons. The blush color is great as a neutral and can be worn over dresses and jeans alike.
Little Red Wool Coat
Made from a soft and fuzzy Shetland Wool, this coat will keep the wearer toasty. A flannel underlining was used to increase insulation and a silk charmeuse lining was used for a little luxury. Bound buttonholes and inseam pockets finish off this flirty alternative to the more militaristic pea coat.
Tip Top Shape
Is there anything better than a blouse or top that fits to perfection? I think not. Just think - no gaping buttonholes, sleeves the correct length, shoulders that fit. The possibilities are endless.
Gray Neutral Blouse
Done in silk crepe de chine, this blouse is perfect for all four seasons. The gray is a great neutral for many skin tones and the crepe fabric creates a dreamy drape for a multitude of body shapes.
Flirt with a Skirt
Nothing is more comfortable than a properly fitting skirt. You may be surprised to learn that anyone can wear any length of skirt. As long as it hits a flattering part of the leg, you don't need stems that reach the heavens to wear a midi.
Don't Put Me in a Box!
These are all of those gems that just didn't fit into any other category. This is the best part of custom. The sky is the limit. Anything you can dream up, we can create!
