Sorry for the small blogging break! I’ve been very busy sewing up this last mini capsule before the holidays so the blog got away from me a bit! However, I have everything sewn up for this last capsule so I can now start sharing all the pieces!
First up is this Kalle Shirt that I made by upcycling a thrifted woman’s silk blouse.
I made this top earlier in the year for the Sew My Style challenge, but wasn’t overly happy with the final result. I think the fabric choice wasn’t the best for my busty figure (it was a linen/cotton blend) and I messed up the final hem length. I was hesitant to try it again, but after finding this fuchsia silk blouse in my thrifted pile, I knew it would make a fun upcycle project for this mini capsule. The end result was a top that makes me very happy!
I sewed a size 14 and made the cropped version. I did add 2” to the cropped hem so that it wasn’t too cropped (I don’t want any belly showing!). This sewed up in no time since I used the existing collar and button band of the original shirt. I basically had to just rehem the top, sew the new side seams, and add the sleeve cuffs and that was it! If you’re interested in a detailed how-to of this conversion, there’s a video!
All in all, I’m very happy with how well this turned out. My full capsule was needing some more bright pink and this definitely fit the bill. It’s a great pattern and much better in a drapier silk on me than the more structured cotton/linen.
Until next time!
